Macurichos Mezcal Madrecuishe

Macurichos Mezcal Madrecuishe is a wild-varietal artisanal mezcal from Gonzalo Martinez in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca — one of only a handful of distillers still producing using ancestral methods, including clay pot stills. Madrecuishe (Agave karwinskii) is a long-stemmed wild agave varietal taking 12–20 years to mature, producing a mineral, elegant, and slightly earthier mezcal.

Macurichos is dedicated to protecting Oaxacan mezcal cultural tradition and agricultural heritage. Gonzalo and his brothers plant from seed and reforest diminishing wild agave populations, using exclusively organic farming. The wild-harvested Madrecuishe expression captures the distinctive structural character of the karwinskii family through the producer’s traditional clay-pot-still ancestral distillation chain.
